Breaking Down the Silos: The Future Face of the Communications Industry

IABC Ottawa presents an Ipsos Reid Ideation Session in partnership with
the University of Ottawa’s Graduate School of Public and International Affairs

Have you ever asked yourself what the future of our industry will look like?

We are living in a digital world where anyone can influence public opinion provided they have a smart phone or access to the Internet.

  • What does this mean for communicators as they compete in an increasingly crowded and dynamic space?
  • Are the walls between the various roles in the communications industry crumbling as everyone focuses on mastering the art of the Tweet?

While we all scramble to face these challenges individually, we rarely take the time to share our experiences and exchange our thoughts on what the coming years will bring in this ever-changing landscape.

Take part in this highly interactive session with fellow communications and marketing practitioners from different backgrounds, industries and areas of expertise to get a glimpse of future communications trends.

Ipsos Reid has developed an interactive tool to enhance workshops and planning sessions. The Ideation Exchange leverages technology and software to enable a high-energy, interactive and efficient alternative to more traditional brainstorming and decision making approaches.

During this workshop all participants will be connected via laptop to facilitate group collaboration. The real-time electronic format allows for simultaneous input, contribution of ideas, voting and feedback, as well as the ability for participants to view real-time results of the brainstorming session.

As part of the workshop fee, participants will receive a summary of key findings that details the main questions and answers from the day, including:

  • What are the most pressing communication issues over the next five years?
  • What is the role/impact of social media specifically on communications moving forward?
  • What will be the key opportunities and challenges that result from Canada’s changing demographics on communications moving forward?

The Ideation Exchange session will be followed by a short discussion in the afternoon, with an expert panel including Mike Colledge, President, Ipsos Reid Public Affairs Canada and Alan Freeman, Public Servant in Residence, University of Ottawa’s Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, who will offer insights on what they heard during the session and answer questions.

Your participation will provide you with:

  • Experience in using the latest in ideation research methods
  • Excellent networking in a facilitated group discussion format
  • A thought-provoking discussion of how our industry is changing and what it means for the future
  • Insight into challenges faced by peers in all facets of the communications industry
  • The opportunity to hear what leading-professionals have to say about the state of the industry and where we are headed.
  • A report summarizing key learnings and insights delivered to you in electronic format within 2 weeks of the session.

Please note that all participants are required to use a laptop during this session. If you do not have access to a laptop, please contact profdev@ottawa.iabc.com.
