October 16 – IABC Member Only Meetup: Books to read for the Professional Communicator

On October 16, IABC Ottawa launches its first official Book Club meeting: Books to Read for the Communications Professional. This member-only event will help communicators connect and stay on top of industry trends.

Members will enjoy an open, relaxed and informal event where they can network with old friends and meet new ones. All of that while you enjoy a glass of wine and cheese!

For our very first official IABC Ottawa Book Club we will be discussing Switch by Chip & Dan Heath. Switch asks the following question: Why is it so hard to make lasting changes in our companies, in our communities, and in our own lives? The primary obstacle, say the Heaths, is a conflict that’s built into our brains. Psychologists have discovered that our minds are ruled by two different systems—the rational mind and the emotional mind—that compete for control. The rational mind wants to change something at work; the emotional mind loves the comfort of the existing routine. This tension can doom a change effort—but if it is overcome, change can come quickly.

No need to have read the book, just come with a healthy appetite for discussion.
