Description: IABC Ottawa is looking for a volunteer Communications Advisor within the Professional Development and Events team, to develop content marketing materials to promote upcoming events this season. The Communications Advisor position is an ideal opportunity to contribute to IABC locally as well as build your leadership and writing skills.

The Professional Development and Events team is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the IABC event planning process, working with the venue catering manager, the coordination of speakers, tracking and reporting survey results, coordinating with the registration managers, and liaising with the marketing and communications team to promote events.

Responsibilities: In collaboration with Professional Development Directors and Vice Presidents:

  • Draft promotional content for IABC Ottawa events including social media posts, speeches and other forms of content
  • Create simple graphics to help support and promote IABC Ottawa events
  • Provide regular updates to Professional Development VPs on events’ progress/needs


  • Active interest in the marketing and communications sector
  • Familiarity, experience and/or interest in IABC Ottawa and its mandate
  • Previous event management is an asset but not required
  • Strong communication and writing skills
  • Familiarity using various social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn
  • Willingness to make a long-term commitment (1 year) and a personal investment in this role
