Annual Excel Awards Celebrate Ottawa’s Top Communicators

Thursday, May 14 2014

Ottawa – Tonight IABC Ottawa hosts the 2014 Excel Awards, attracting Ottawa’s best communicators, marketers and creative designers at Canada’s National Arts Centre.

The Excel Awards are the premier recognition program for Ottawa’s communication, marketing and creative design professionals. Recipients are recognized for their contributions in their fields ranging from media relations, crisis communications and branding to graphic design, audiovisual and interactive media. Each category was scored by volunteer evaluators from across Canada, who are leaders in their field.

“The Excel Awards recognize and celebrate professionals who use communication to effect change and achieve results for brands and communities,” said Jennifer Birch, IABC Ottawa President. “There will be many toasts offered to friends and colleagues tonight as this event is the icing on the cake for all their hard work.”

25 awards are being presented this evening, including the coveted Communicator of the Year award, which is presented to the Honourable Mayor Jim Watson for demonstrating that his candid communications with residents — online and in person – can build a stronger more cohesive community. Max Keeping, will be honoured with a special Lifetime Achievement Award recognizing how he has mastered the bridge between traditional media and social media, using it to help make our community a better place.
