IABC Ottawa honours brightest communications, marketing and creative talent in the National Capital Region

The Ottawa Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) announced the winners the 2011 Excel Awards at a gala event held at the Canadian Museum of Nature on Wednesday, June 8, 2011. Along with emcee Alan Neal, host of CBC Radio One’s All in a Day, more than 150 industry professionals came together to celebrate.

“The communications, marketing and creative talent of this city invests so much time, energy and effort into their work, but rarely do they stop and take a moment to receive well-deserved recognition,” said Sandra Markus, President, IABC Ottawa. “Our Excel Awards program gives people that very opportunity: to have their work evaluated by leaders in the industry, and celebrated by their colleagues and peers.”

Overall, 28 awards were handed out in more than 15 categories across four divisions: Communication Management; Communication Skills; Communications Creative and the Student Division. Entries were scored by volunteer judges from across Canada, each a leader in the field of communications. Entries that scored between 5.25 and 5.74 out of a possible 7 points received an Award of Merit certificate. Entries that scored 5.75 or higher received an Award of Excellence trophy.
