Ottawa’s Top Communicators Celebrated at Annual Excel Awards

Ottawa – IABC Ottawa celebrated the city’s top communicators, marketers and creative designers this month at the annual Excel Awards celebration, held at Saint Brigid’s Centre for the Arts. The IABC Excel Awards program is the premier recognition program for communications, marketing and creative design professionals in the National Capital Region.

The Excel Awards recognize work across three divisions: communication management, communication skills and communication creative. Recipients are recognized for their contributions in fields ranging from media relations, crisis communications and branding to graphic design, audiovisual and interactive media. Entries were scored by volunteer judges from across Canada, each a leader in the field of communications.

Adding flair and excitement to this year’s sold out awards ceremony, IABC Ottawa introduced an interactive cirque theme that saw guests greeted by flame-throwers and enjoying traditional carnival treats, such as cotton candy and popcorn.

29 awards were presented throughout the evening, including the coveted Communicator of the Year award, which was given to Hélène Campbell, a double lung transplant recipient who started to raise awareness about organ donation through social media and other innovative communications initiatives in 2012 and turned it into her own initiative in 2013, the Give2Live Campaign.

“The Excel Awards was a great evening, that saw Ottawa’s top communicators coming together, to celebrate our dynamic and ever-evolving industry,” said Kelly Rusk, President, IABC Ottawa. “The new, interactive format also allowed guests to network and mingle throughout the evening.”
