As the Board prepares to wrap up the 2016-2017 season, I’ve taken time to pause and reflect on my term as President of IABC Ottawa. It’s been a true pleasure to see the vision that I set out come to life. They say a leader is only as strong as the team that supports him/her and this could not be truer for IABC Ottawa. Our team is made up of dedicated volunteers who take pride in giving back to their profession. IABC Ottawa would not exist without you – so thank you!
We know you look to us for professional development needs. We heard you say you want to build skills to help keep up with the digital transformation we’re seeing in the workplace. This season we hosted events to meet these needs including a case study presentation on change management, a content strategy panel and a coding for communicators workshop. We’ve already started a listening tour to help us identify your professional development needs for 2017-2018.
We’ve experienced many wins as a Chapter this season, giving us recognition on the international stage:
- In February, the executive attended Leadership Institute in Dallas where we took home two prestigious Chapter Management Awards.
- Our podcast, The Voice, became internationally syndicated. What a great opportunity to position our members as experts and to share original content with other Chapters across the globe!
- Members of our community won Gold Quill and Silver Leaf We’re proud to honour and celebrate the hard work of our Ottawa area communicators with our very own Bronze Quill awards at the upcoming season closer.
We have some exciting initiatives in the works for next season. For example, we will host the much anticipated communication professional certification exams developed by the Global Communication Certification Council.
I’m looking forward to seeing you on June 20 at our season closer.
President, IABC Ottawa
