Shawna is a driven and dynamic communication professional with just over 3 years of experience in the field. She holds a bachelor’s degree in social sciences with a major in criminology & minor in sociology from the University of Ottawa, as well as a public relations diploma from Algonquin College. Her areas of interest include : social media, digital communications, and content development. As a serial volunteer, she also volunteers in a communications capacity with Empow(Her) Network and the Ottawa Tool Library.
Brooke Anderson is an Account Manager with the corporate group in Edelman’s Ottawa office. With five years of communications experience in agency and public sector environments, she offers a well-rounded perspective to her clients. Specializing in media relations, corporate communications, and content creation, she has extensive experience developing effective communications strategies and programs. From product launches to CSR campaigns, Brooke is a skillful project manager and communicator.
Prior to Edelman, Brooke worked for a multinational public relations consulting firm. She supported numerous communication efforts for some of the world’s best-known brands, such as Facebook, Huawei, FedEx, Magna, and Dell-EMC, along with Canadian companies such as Scotiabank, Tangerine, Mitel, and Sobeys. Brooke also completed a public affairs internship at the Canadian embassy in Washington, DC.

Somayeh is a Communications Professional with more than 10 years of experience in teaching, scholarly publishing, journalism, media relations, and public relations. Passionate about building relationships, creating and delivering effective messaging, and leading projects. Somayeh holds a Ph.D. in Mass Communication and a MSc in Communication Technology from the University Putra Malaysia as well as a BS in Journalism from Azad University in Iran.
Khatia is a media-savvy, highly organized, and creative public relations specialist with over five years of experience in marketing and communications. Currently, she works at Canvet Publications where she develops and implements creative campaign ideas, conducts research, and makes evidence-based recommendations. Khatia owns a boutique public relations agency. As someone who enjoys sharing her knowledge and experiences, Khatia worked as a lecturer at two universities in Tbilisi.
Rachel is a third year Communication and Political Science student at the University of Ottawa, as well as a Parliamentary Assistant on Parliament Hill. Passionate about the intersection of politics and strategic communication, she is excited to be a volunteer with IABC again this year to bridge her public sector experience into networking with esteemed colleagues from the private sector. In her spare time, she enjoys watching documentaries, travelling, and spin class!
Mirna Shaltout is a recent graduate from Carleton University with a BA honours in Communications and Art History. Mirna is very passionate about planning events and connecting the people of Ottawa to art through event planning. She recently started volunteering for the Ottawa Art Gallery where she plans events and workshops for the diverse groups of seniors in Ottawa in order to connect them with the rich art history of Canada.
Cassidy is currently completing her final year at Carleton University in Communication and Media Studies. As part of the co-op program at Carleton, Cassidy has had the opportunity to take on a variety of communications roles at various Government of Canada Departments and Agencies. She presently works at the Canada Revenue Agency. Cassidy is excited to be involved with IABC this season as the Director of Leadership Engagement, and is looking forward to learning and meeting new people in the Ottawa communications community.
Kelsey Hunt was born and raised in Ottawa and is always interested in getting involved in events around the city. She has a background communications from the University of Ottawa and a passion for working in the sports industry. She is currently pursuing a career as a sports event coordinator in Ottawa.

Paroma is a digital marketing analyst at EDC, with an engineering background. She has been working in the private and non-profit sectors since 2014. She is well versed in Ottawa’s small business digital asset management and online marketing strategies. Paroma is also credited as a publicist in An Insider’s Guide to Canada’s Capital, a maiden publication venture by Wingd Canada which was launched in 2017 to commemorate Canada’s 150th anniversary. She also volunteers with Ask Womxn Anything and organizes their monthly speaker panels. Paroma loves traveling, photography and curating content on local business.
Sherry Aske is an innovative digital communicator focused on finding the best ways to connect with Canadians on emerging and existing platforms. She has six years’ experience as a journalist at CBC Ottawa and is now a social media advisor for the public service working on partnerships with Facebook, Twitter, Google and Snapchat. She loves podcasts, popcorn and polishing off a good book.

Priscilia Odia Kabengele just received a specialized bachelor’s degree in public relations and communications from the University of Ottawa and College La Cité -with honors-. She will be pursuing her career in the Government of Canada. She likes reading and testing new technologies. She is interested in the contribution of new media to public and organizational communications. She will volunteer in the members Connect Program.

As Director of Communications and Marketing at CPCS, Benoit is responsible for the growth and evolution of the company’s global brand. As a certified Strategic Communications Management Professional (SCMP), Benoit brings more than 10 years of experience in public relations, change management, employee communications, sales and stakeholder management. Benoit is fluently bilingual in both English and French.
Prior to joining CPCS, Benoit was involved in strategic communications and change as part of the Program Management Office at the Royal Canadian Mint. Before that, he earned record-breaking media coverage for the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) by marketing studies and stories impacting Canadians.
Sarah Allison is an engaged professional with a passion for building brand equity by nurturing strong relationships and executing communications strategies and building consensus by bringing people and ideas together. She has a strong track record of understanding client needs and using empathy, creativity, and skill set to devise solutions. Sarah is guided by a belief that a foundation of customer service excellence and relationship-building leads to success.
Megan is a communications and public relations professional with 4 years of experience in the field. She holds a Communication and Media Studies Honours Degree from Carleton University, and will be graduating from the public relations program at Algonquin College in Spring 2020. Although she is small in size, her passion and enthusiasm is beyond giant.
Erica is a passionate and driven marketing and communications professional with 2 years’ experience in the field. She doubles as a full-time PR student at the University of Ottawa and a part-time marketing and communications officer at the Telfer School of Management. Her interests include social media, content creation, digital marketing, events, and project management.
She holds a diploma in Public Relations from Algonquin College and is one semester away from completing her Honours Bachelor of Arts with Specialization in Public Relations. Erica is a self-proclaimed expert coffee drinker and multitasker – passionate about traveling, learning new languages, volunteering, and all things food-related!
Rachelle DeSorcy is a Marketing Officer with the Trade Commissioner Service – Global Affairs Canada. An entrepreneurial communications, marketing, and project management specialist, Rachelle recently made the jump from supporting Canadian businesses in the private sector to the federal government. She has five years of experience working in fast-paced, agile environments managing teams and coordinating projects, including conferences, awards, podcasts, digital events, and communications and social media products, all while working with various stakeholders across industry including multinationals like UPS, Amazon, and Mastercard, all levels of government, and the entrepreneurship ecosystem in Canada and abroad.
In 2018, Rachelle traveled to Taiwan on a diplomatic Young Leaders delegation. She holds a bachelor of arts degree from Carleton University and a diploma in public relations from Algonquin College. Rachelle is a fitness junkie, content gormandizer, and is always finding new things to learn about.
