Katie VanAlstine,
Director of Finance/Events

Katie Van Alstine has been in the banking industry for over 14 years. She recently decided to join IABC for the 2018-19 season as Director of Finance. She is excited to bring her expertise of Finance to the table as well as experience all that IABC Ottawa has to offer.

Erica Howes,
Director of Member Relations

Erica works in corporate communications at CIRA – the Canadian Internet Registration Authority. Her background is in writing and community relations in the non-profit sector. She recently joined IABC Ottawa as a volunteer and is a graduate of Carleton University’s journalism program.

Jimena Martinez,
Member Relations Advisor

Jimena is the Member Relations Advisor for IABC and works full time as the Communications Coordinator for Homicity. When she is not looking for ways to engage students in communications, she is reading about Ottawa tech startups or content strategy.

Rachel Haddad,
Student Advocate, University of Ottawa

Rachel is a second-year student at the University of Ottawa studying Communication and Political Science. She’s passionate about public relations, experiential learning, youth involvement in social and political affairs, and international travel.

Gabriella Taekama,
Director, Events

Current communications student for the CFIA’s strategic priorities unit and binge watcher of Downton Abbey. She has been a member of IABC for two years and can’t wait for everyone to see the events lined up for this year!

Manuela Barcenas,
Director, Events

Manuela is a marketing professional with a passion for storytelling, relationship building and social impact. She moved to Canada four years ago to pursue her studies in Journalism and Communications at Carleton University. This year, Manuela started working at a startup company called Fellow and is excited to continue planning awesome events with IABC!

Frederique Mantha,
Volunteer, Events Director, Jobline

Frédérique Mantha is the Translation Manager at HSO (Health Standards Organization). In her current role she coordinates hundreds of translation and localization projects each month. Frédérique continues to translate into her mother tongue (French) through volunteer translations (Ottawa Festivals, TED, etc) and freelance work (Keurig, DAZN, etc).

Mirna Shaltout,
Volunteer, Events

Mirna Shaltout is an undergraduate international student in Communications and Art History with a Minor in Spanish at Carleton University with an interest in event management. Mirna has experience with managing and updating social media accounts, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and coordinating an AGM event.

Aniela Cockburn,
Director, Social Media and Measurement

Aniela has recently graduated from the Algonquin College PR program and has started her career at Edelman, an international PR agency. Having moved to Canada only 4 years ago she knows how important it is to network and to build lasting connections. Therefore she is extremely excited to start the position of director of marketing communications.

Brooke Anderson,
Director, Email Marketing + Newsletter

Brooke Anderson is an Account Manager with the corporate group in Edelman’s Ottawa office. With five years of communications experience in agency and public sector environments, she offers a well-rounded perspective to her clients. Specializing in media relations, corporate communications, and content creation, she has extensive experience developing effective communications strategies and programs. From product launches to CSR campaigns, Brooke is a skillful project manager and communicator.

Prior to Edelman, Brooke worked for a multinational public relations consulting firm. She supported numerous communication efforts for some of the world’s best-known brands, such as Facebook, Huawei, FedEx, Magna, and Dell-EMC, along with Canadian companies such as Scotiabank, Tangerine, Mitel, and Sobeys. Brooke also completed a public affairs internship at the Canadian embassy in Washington, DC.

Brooke holds a bachelor of arts degree from University of Guelph, a master of arts degree from Queen’s University, and a certificate in public relations from Humber College.

Marija is a senior financial services marketing strategist with 10+ years of B2B/B2C agency and client-side experience. She tells stories that link marketing strategy to bottom line business results. Stories that translate disciplined analytics into actionable insights. Stories that motivate teams and maximize individual and cross-functional team strengths. Stories that simplify complex concepts into customer-centric ideas. Specialties include digital marketing and advertising, social media, brand strategy, brand identity planning, lead generation, and product marketing.

Lauren Doty,
Director, Volunteers Engagement

Lauren has six years of professional experience in communications. She graduated from Carleton University with a BA honours in Communication Studies in 2014 and has held various communications positions at Carleton University, the British High Commission and Colliers International. She currently works at ACFO-ACAF, a federal public service union for accountants, as a Project Officer. In her spare time, she loves to read, travel, and jog!

Erin Hutchison,
Director, Community Engagement

Erin is a marketing and communications professional currently working at the Canadian Internet Registration Authority, which operates the .CA domain registry. She has a degree in International Business with a minor in Spanish from Carleton University.

Kelly Rusk,
Host, Senior Communicators Events

As an expert in all forms of digital communication and a wealth of experience and expertise that includes public relations, social media, content marketing and web development – Kelly leads Banfield’s digital team. This includes training and skills development across the company and working directly with clients to find the best digital solutions for their business.

Kelly brings a diverse background stretching across marketing communications with demonstrated expertise as an early social media influencer. Kelly has been working on the web for over 10 years in agencies, startups and briefly in government at the City of Ottawa.

Kelly is also a sought after digital marketing speaker and has spoken at events across Canada and the US. She is currently the Chair of IABC Canada East Regional board and volunteers with the Ottawa chapter hosting events exclusively for senior communicators.
