Communications Certification

Elevate Your Career — Get Certified

Get professional certification to help keep your skills fresh and demonstrate your experience in the communications field.

IABC provides its members with the great opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and expertise thanks to The Global Communication Certification Council (GCCC). Not familiar with GCCC? This video shares five reasons to get certified.

Get certified as a communications professional

This fall, on October 26, IABC Ottawa is hosting two exams:

  • The Communication Management Professional (CMP): For generalist, specialist and other business communicators established in their careers as managers and looking to demonstrate their competence.
  • Strategic Communication Management Professional (SCMP): For highly skilled business communicators practiced in providing strategic communication advice and counseling to an organization’s leadership.

Start your application

IABC members wishing to take the exam must first apply and be approved. For the application to be successful, GCCC requires applicants to describe their education, training, and experience in the communications field.

Importantly, all communications professionals can take the certification exam, however, IABC members receive a significant discount and access to IABC resources to help study for the exam.

“Obtaining professional certification in communications was a personal goal I had set for myself some time ago. Although I felt that I knew my craft well and kept up to speed on the latest trends, I wanted to prove to myself that I met a certain global standard within the profession. My advice is this: if you think you might be ready, take the leap! It’s worth it!”
