A new approach for chapter awards
As a member-based organization and the hub of Ottawa’s marketing, communications and creative professions, we try always to respond to the wants and needs of those we serve. That’s why we are significantly changing the chapter’s awards this season and will not be running the Excel Awards program.
Over the past few seasons some local agencies have been very supportive of the Excel Awards, but many others have not. Entry numbers have been dropping year on year. It’s been a struggle to recruit volunteers to run the program, assess the entries and plan and run the awards celebration.
As a board we are listening to our community and are changing the way we encourage and recognize professional excellence. The national Silver Leaf Awards and the international Gold Quill Awards are both well recognized and prestigious programs, and we are encouraging and pledge to support members in participating at these levels. In addition, we’ll celebrate local excellence at our AGM in June 2016 where we will announce the IABC Ottawa Special Awards including:
- Ottawa’s Communicator of the Year;
- Member Distinguished Service;
- Volunteer of the Year; and
- The Rick Green Award.
